A Nation Robbed Of Color, Barbarians Robbed of Spirituality...
I put down the piece of horror and amusement I've been reading. I decide to paint my nails, give them a french manicure. I do this often casually, without much thought except joy of indulging myself in feminity. But doing it in this moment holds a very different meaning and seems much more poignant. What I so easily called a "piece of horror", is actually a representation of the lives of millions of women, a closer look at a legal system, the realities of an entire nation. More scarily, a painting of an entire idealogy; A country:Afghanistan.
In the pages I've just read, women of this country narrate their lives, their traditions, the laws that govern their already governed lives. The Taliban used to cut the tip of a finger or toe if they were seen colored in nail varnish. Imagine the horror of living in a nation that allowed any authority to dictate the actions an individual could or could not do to their own body; something as innocent as color. A government that banned women from wearing high heel shoes, banned the import of cosmetics, tabooed female education, burnt down any bookshops, a country whose laws were inundated with Do's, Donts, hell, heaven and punishments.
This is a country that prohibited female education and taught the alphabet like this: I is for Israel, our enemy; J is for Jihad, our cause; K is for Klashenkov , our weapon to kill.
Maths was taught like this: If there are 10 infidels, and you kill 3; how many infidels remain?.
A country's education system dictates the quality of mind of its future generations. It determines the future of a nation. What future and what minds will a nation that impregnates its youth with such obnoxious idealogies create?Taliban.
The treatment of women yells out cries of agony, cruelty, torture and abuse. But, there is no law, no punishment, no arrow pointing to hell in the books of law of these barbarians for such crimes. Women are to be used for one purpose; sex, serve one purpose; man and remain clad in the blackness, darkness, and ignorance of the veil. If this was a choice, it would be respected. The reality that there is no choice, only compulsion makes it despicable. How shocking is it that out of the countless women that speak in this book, not one seems happy, content, or respected?.
What is even more ironically marvelling is the impilcitly explicit insiniuation about women that dictates the law and functionings of the minds of these men. The laws and idealogies in implicitly explicit ways insinuate the opinions held of women. Women are considered evil, immoral, promiscuos, mindless beings that need to be supervised and controlled like wild cattle. And since we are talking about cattle, the use of force and physical power becomes naturally normal and needed.
And these men, these tyrannical illiterate sex meniacs believe they have the wisdom to lead a nation, dictate destinies, decide who will go to heaven and hell, make laws, speak in the name of God, have the conviction that they are superior in the eyes of God, use the thickness and length of their beards as licenses to commit the most heinous crimes and terror in their personal lives. Let me clarify, I speak only of the Taliban here.
Where is the fear of God when these men beat women, where is the thought of God when these men have countless illicit relationships, where is the love of God when these men deny God's own creation the right to education, the right to choose, the right to live?.
We think the Taliban has been abolished by the flags of America. But, there is a manifestation of Afghanistan in every Muslim country. Maybe not to the extents that it presented itself in Afghanistan but in more implicit forms. Any country, or government that uses religion as a tool of control, and uses compulsion to make the masses abide is situated along the same path...the path of and to Afghanistan.
How much more can a religion so pure and loving be dirtied; how much more can a religion be robbed of its essence; spirituality, how much more sin can be done in the name of God. A God that commands and demands love, kindness and justice to all.
Maybe we've forgotten God is above all this cruelty, injustice and torture. God is above, let's not believe any government or individual can play God on earth.
My nail polish has dried. The tips clad in white, the remaining part blushed in pink. Looking truely feminine...A right I have, a right every woman has.
I pick up my book to continue reading. The horror continues....
